CEDA has provided funding to develop a web-based version of the Tuljapurkar-Lee Stochastic Social Security simulator, also with support from Lee's R37 grant and a grant from the Social Security Administration. This web site will provide stochastic projections of the long-term finances of the US Social Security system, with various policy options and other options that the user can choose.
Funding for this web-based version of the Lee-Carter mortality model estimator and forecaster was provided by a NIA grant to Lee, R03-AG024314 and by the NIA funded Center for the Economics and Demography of Aging (CEDA) under P30-AG012839-14. This website permits users to construct their own mortality forecasts using the Lee-Carter method and extensions of it, using their own data or by importing data from the Human Mortality Database (HMD).
SOCSIM has been a flagstone research tool for the Department of Demography and has increased in scope and sophistication over its original implimentation over 30 years ago.
A new tools initiative begins with HMD/HFD+, a set of small tools written in R to aid researchers using the mortality and fertility databases of the Human Mortality Database (HMD) and the Human Fertility Database (HFD).
