Current Projects : _Dr. Gretchen Donehower assists researchers who want to use any simulation or forecasting programs developed by researchers affiliated with the Center on the Economics and Demography of Aging. She also responds to requests from state and federal policy makers or other agencies such as the United Nations for special data, forecasts or simulations. For stochastic projections of long term Social Security finances she maintains and updates the Stochastic Social Security Simulator program (SIMSOC).  She is also working towards making a full microsimulation of the twentieth century US population available to the public via the web.  The microsimulation is produced by SOCSIM, a demographic microsimulation program developed by faculty of the UC Berkeley Demography Department. Another ongoing project, with Doug Wolf at Syracuse University, is to estimate the fiscal impact of childbearing. She also works on the National Transfer Accounts (NTA) project. For this she estimates age profiles of economic activity for the United States for current and historical periods, and uses US and other country profiles as inputs to models that estimate the impact of population change on the economy.  These models have been used to examine the economic effects of demographic transitions and changes in mortality from health interventions. Finally, she assists in teaching a computer lab class for graduate students in the Demography Department.
